Their last album High Violet hasn’t really lived up to predecessors Alligator and Boxer but that hasn’t stopped them becoming one of the biggest bands in the indie rock world today.
The National return and as predicted the venue is bigger and at this rate we can only expect to have to lay out 50€ next time they drop by. If you are among the lucky ticket holders for this show then you’re in for a treat. Columbiahalle is the best big venue in Berlin. We were at the Huxleys show last May and it was just alright, much better than the Astra one where apparently people were passing out from the heat and the sound was crap. The National are a band best enjoyed in smaller venues like the old Magnet and you can’t help but feel that a run of shows at Lido for instance would be a much better waste of everyone’s time where we could all enjoy this exhilarating live band up close and sweaty.
Anyway, that’s just my opinion, man.
